Wild one | Rapper Flo Rida opening new vodka distillery in Fort Lauderdale
By PHILLIP VALYS
The club can’t handle Flo Rida, but can South Florida handle the chart-topping rapper’s new vodka distillery?
The multiplatinum Miami-based artist is the new co-owner and brand ambassador behind Old Sistrunk Distillery, a food and drink
complex scheduled to open in late 2020 or early 2021 in Fort Lauderdale.
At 13,000 square feet, the three-story Old Sistrunk Distillery at 1012 Sistrunk Blvd. will house a cigar bar, wine bar, lounge and restaurant
along with the distillery’s tasting room. The distillery will pour Victor George Vodka, the namesake vodka brand of Fort Lauderdale-based
co-owner and ex-rapper Victor G. Harvey, and Flo Rida will serve as the spirit company’s equity partner and brand ambassador.
“I have known Mr. Harvey for years and I’ve seen his grind, hard work and enthusiasm in building his brand,” Flo Rida said in a press
statement. “I look forward to … developing new products through the construction of a distillery in historic Sistrunk and empowering the
For those keeping count, the building brings the number of soon-to-open distilleries along the Sistrunk drag from zero to two. Sistrunk
Marketplace and Brewery, an unrelated but no less ambitious 40,000-square-foot food hall and distillery, is due to open in February
across the street from FAT Village.
Until the distillery opens, drinkers can buy Victor George Vodka at South Florida liquor retailers Total Wine, Crown Wine and Spirits and
Ocean Wine and Spirits, plus 130 South Florida restaurants including YOLO and Tuscan Prime.
Flo Rida (“Right Round,” "Wild Ones,” “G.D.F.R.,” “My House”) is hardly the
first rapper to plant roots near the bustling Sistrunk and Flagler Village
neighborhoods north of downtown. Grammy-nominated artist Tory Lanez
(“Luv,” “Say It”) co-owns Notorious Creamery, a frozen-treat shack in that
opened last June in the Hive.

The small-batch vodka brand’s lone flavor – for now – is the 80-proof, gluten-free “Special Edition V.I.P,” filtered and blended from
American grains, according to the company’s website. The distillery will eventually bottle whiskey, gin, tequila and other specialty liqueurs.
